Henry Tyson: St. Marcus School Milwaukee More than 100 participated in this inspirational luncheon, featuring St. Marcus administrator Henry Tyson. Tyson said St. Marcus strives to be the best urban Christian School in America. He said schools need to start talking about quality. Fewer than 50% of African American boys graduate from high school in Milwaukee. It holds the greatest racial achievement gap in the nation. Grave personnel, social and economic problems have resulted. St. Marcus has 370 students and 83% are African American. Open from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., it employs strong leadership and relentlessly high expectations. "We need systemic reform from the top down," said Tyson. "We are robbing our children of a great opportunity." Tyson encouraged Rotarians to get involved, to visit a school, bring reform, financial support and their unique expertise. "We need to change the dialogue," said Tyson, shown below:
IMPORTANT NOTES: Remember Bingo, Monday, June 28 at 6 p.m. at Shorehaven! A Rotarian is needed to step up for the Community Harvest Expo July 17 at Roosevelt Park. People needed to host a Rotary booth from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hundreds of participants expected!
