Although coal and natural gas will always be a mainstay, the role for renewable energy is surfacing. He described urban renewal, solar, thermal and vertical wind sources. "We need to continue to play a leading role in the world stage of renewable energy and how it's applied to commerce," said Kowieski. He encouraged students to seek career opportunities in this growing field. "We are following in the footsteps of China and Europe. There is an opportunity right here for us to step up and take a leading role."

NHS president Brad Zastrow responded that world renewable energy efforts are based on NHS principles, and commended Kowieski for bettering the "world for future generations."
